Emma can't understand the importance of Good Friday at this age, but that didn't stop us from telling her how special this day was for us all. Josh and I have debated for a while now weather or not it would be best for our kids to do Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny. We loved it as children and didn't want to exclude our kids from such a fun thing. However, we also didn't want our kids to relate the two with our stories of Jesus. Through prayer and talking with several friends with kids (some who do Santa/Easter Bunny and some who don't) we decided it would be harmless as long as we put emphasis on who we are truly celebrating.
On this Good Friday, we explained to Emma the story of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. We then began talking about the Easter Bunny and how God made bunnies just like He made her. Although she was playing with her fingers or my hair or whatever was on her mind at the time, we will always tell her this story and she will eventually be able to listen and understand.
