New Years Eve

It was a quiet evening, here at the Reid's, as we watched the ball drop.  Nana Tana and Aunt Mags came over to ring in the new year with my little family and me.

The night actually became a sort of take down Christmas decorations party.  Emma went to sleep right on schedule - 7:30 pm - so were able to break down the tree and put all the decorations away while the NYC concert played as background noise.

Emma was down for a good chunk of the night before waking up to fireworks - 10:45 pm.  She actually slept through hours of fireworks going off before being disturbed by them.  It's funny really, she jumps awake instantly when someone coughs or sneezes, but set of fireworks outside her window and she simply stirs a little - my kid.

Any other night I wouldn't have been as excited to see Emma awake again at eleven.  Tonight, however, she was up to experience the ball drop and officially welcome in the new year with us.  Three til midnight we snuggled her up in a blanket and took her outside to see the neighbors shoot their fireworks.  We weren't sure if she would be acceptable to the noise, but they didn't seem to bother her.  She watched in awe at each one that lit up the sky.  Her mouth hung open in sweet amazement.

The year my baby girl was born has come and gone.  I am thrilled to meet the new year and all it has to bring.  For Emma Grace, the new year will bring a lot more firsts!

Welcome 2012!  Happy new year!
