Back to the doctor we go. My poor child. I get nervous if her nose is a little crusty. She has been to the doctor SO many times in her little life. I honestly have lost count. Aside from her reflux problem, all the other visits were a moot point. Emma has yet to actually be sick!
The last couple days Emma has set off some red flags for me. She hasn't been taking all her bottle as usual or sucking on her passy for comfort. Last night she woke up twice in the middle of the night, which she hasn't done in several weeks. She has been drooling like crazy - way more lately. Yesterday, she spit up after every meal and sometimes completely randomly.
Like I have been assuming for weeks now, I figured it was teething. The extra drooling, irritability and lack of interest in bottle and passy? Sounds just like teething to me. However, the doctors continue to say three months is too early for Emma to begin teething.
I called the office today and the nurse advised me to bring her in. She said it could be an ear infection since she was not taking her bottle or passy. The sucking would irritate her ears had they been infected. Luckily for me, Josh had gotten off work at lunch so we could head on out of town. It was nice to have his extra help taking Emma to the doctor.
It turned out to be her reflux. With her being almost four months, her Zantac dosage isn't quite enough for her new size. The original instructions were to give her the drops three times a day. For some reason, it always seemed she was only getting it twice a day. Since there were no more problems, we continued with the medicine in her morning and evening bottle. Today, the pediatrician said to go back to the three times a day and see if that works. If she continues to have these fits through the weekend, then we will up the dosage.
I can't believe it all goes back to that darn reflux. Poor baby is so worn out from all the crying today. She sure was in good spirits when we got to the doctor, but quickly fell apart once he started messing with her. Bless her heart! Emma, mama AND daddy sure are glad that's over!
Because of the crazy rough day, we decided it would be best to stay home tonight and head out tomorrow instead. It's not even seven yet and Emma is already sound asleep. Hopefully she will get great rest and feel all better tomorrow for Nana's birthday! Hopefully we ALL will get great rest and be ready for our jam packed trip.
