Christmas is only a week away and, of course, we will be going down to have three of the four Christmases we share with our loved ones. First, however, we had a wedding to attend this past weekend.
It was one of our friends from college finally tying the knot. He has been important in both mine and Josh's lives. We were so honored Josh was able to be a groomsmen and so thankful to share his special day with him and his beautiful, kind bride.
Emma's first road trip included:
2 hours to Josh's mother's house (Thursday)
2 1/2 hours to our friend's house in Florida (Friday)
45 minutes to the wedding in Alabama (Saturday)
45 minutes back to Florida (Saturday night)
4+ hours heading home today (Sunday)
My anxiety, to say the least, was hitting the roof with nerves. Don't get me wrong, Emma is such a wonderful baby, but when she has a fit all is over - not much calms her. My greatest traveling fear was that we would be stuck in my vehicle with a very loud, upset baby girl.
To my great, great surprise, Emma never cried until the last thirty minutes of the entire weekend. I climbed in the back seat, talked to her and she settled down. All that time and energy put into worrying about the trip was a complete waste. If only I had put it in God's hands to begin with. He seemed to have had it under control the entire time.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
To say the least, it was an incredible trip from go. We were able to introduce Emma to so many people who mean a whole lot to us. It was surreal to watch our past and present melt into one brief moment in time.
As fun as the trip was, Dorothy was right.
There's no place like home.
